OUR STORY & PHILOSOPHY

Zentopia is founded by two artists, Coco and Pam, in October 2019.

Both grew up in Jiangxi province, where China’s porcelain capital Jingdezhen (景德镇) is located in. The Chinese ceramic culture is learned unconsciously simply by growing up there.

Jingdezhen was formerly called Changnan (昌南 and was renamed by Emperor Zhenzong with his era name Jingde in 1004 AD during the Song Dynasty, as recognition for its fine quality porcelain. For more than 1700 years, this small town has been producing some of the world's most exquisite and precious porcelain. As the industry grew, the products were exported to many parts of the world resulting in the pronunciation among porcelain traders morphing from ‘Changnan’ to ‘China’.

Art takes time to accumulate and pottery has a history of thousands of years in China. From mud to pottery, it must go through various complicated procedures. It is fired in kilns, and then becomes a dedicated work.

Making pottery is like Buddhist doctrine. To make the pure and rustic work is to spiritualize you. This is also the dream of every artist.
